Hello! On 11/13/1793 there was a John Finley who married a Margaret Kerr in Knox County, TN. Bondsman for the marriage was a JEREMIAH MCCARTER. On 1/11/1793 a JOSEPH TEDFORD married a Mary McNutt in Knox County, TN. Bondsman for the marriage was a John Houston. In the May court session for Knox County, Tennessee in 1793 - the last will and testament of a LAMOS JAMES MCCARTER was produced in court and proved by the oath of Robert Love and Benjamin Grayson. SARAH MCCARTER was appointed as executor. On the Internet is a web-site which list information entitled Sundry Inhabitants South of French Broad, General Assembly Session Records November - Decemeber 1798 Box 4, Folder 81, Source: North Carolina State Archives It says that many men lived in East Tennessee in 1789. They lived on land in Indian (Cherokee) Territory which had not yet been purchased by the government. Many lived under the State of Franklin. If you scroll down to page 13 - you find LAMMAS MCCARTY. See above regarding the will of Lamos James McCarter. I wonder if one and same? Listed on page 14 - is a JEREMIAH MCCARTER, SAL MCCARTER and Joseph Tedford. See Jeremiah McCarter and Joseph Tedford above. In another part of the document is listed another Joseph Tedford. There are several Tedfords listed throughout. On page 17 are the names of the signees one of which was a Spencer Clack. May have been related to the Clacks of Sevier County, TN. From the document it appears that my own husband's ancestor John Walker is found listed. He settled in Greene County, TN and left a will there in the 1790s. On 7/5/1796 a Mary McCarter married a Thomas Rogers in Blount County, TN. I wonder if she was a relation to the McCarter men in the North Carolina documents? If McCarter had been her maiden name. On 6/23/1839 a Jeremiah McCarter married Nancy Jane Hollinsworth (various spellings) in Knox County, TN. It is known that this family settled in Blount County, TN and several Tedfords also resided near them. Very interesting web-site. Thanks Anna Walker Notify Administrator about this message?
