To the Honorable County Court of Sebastian County.
The undersigned applicant for a pension under an act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, approved April 1st, 1891, and amendments thereto, being sworn, states that his name is William J. McCarrell, his age is 62 years, that he as resided in this State for 43 years, that he is not receiving aid from the State of Arkansas or any other State or government for injuries received in the war between the States.
That he enlisted at Tomlinson Twp, Scott Co., on or about the 10th day of July 1862, in Company J(?), commanded by Capt John Rollins form Gibson's Battalion in Confederate State Service.Afterwards re-enlisted in Company A, in the Gunter's Battalion of Cavalry commanded by Major Woosley in same service.That while a member of Capt J Reids's Co., in said service and while in the line of duty at Potato Hill Prairie, Franklin Co., in the State of Arkansas, on or about the 20 day of August, 1862 he received an injury from an unruly mule upon which he had been detailed to ride and perform a special duty in said service.He had a bodily affliction, which affliction was so greatly increased and aggravated while riding said unruly mule and performing said duty that it necessitated his discharge from military service.He bears a discharge date of Sept 8, 1862.
My means of support are about as follows:
Daily labor on a rented farm; the land owner receiving one half of all that is made by the said labor.

APPLICATION FOR PENSION

I, Wm J. McCarrell, do solemnly swear I served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Maj Gibson's battalion of Mounted riflemen from the State of Arkansas in June 1862, I was transferred to Reeds Battery and that I was honorably discharged from such service on or about the 14th September, 1862.Again enlisted in Woosley Company, Woosley's battalion in August 1963, discharged again in June 1864 and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been a bonafide resident of this State; that I do no myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both toether, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages from any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life ( or am totally blind), and that such incapacity (or disability) is the result of ? hernia and ....?... debility, being now 67 years of age, accident or disease, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help be God.

I, J. W. Samuals, a duly registered and practicing physician in Sebastian County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with W. M. McCarrell of Sebastian County, Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pwnsion under the Statutes of Arkansas.
That at his request I have made an examination of his physican condition and find that he is suffering from ...?... hernnia Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable to the above named variable and to general disability.He being now 67 years old and that said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits wtill persisted in.

McCarrell for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is a Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances, and wholly incapacitated for manual labor, and that his clam is just, and that he should be allowed $100.00 pension.
