I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Note 1 - Without a KNOWN parish, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%. Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database. Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome). For James McCann B 1840 +/- 4 yrs somewhere in Ireland, there are 87 B rcds. With a father named "N" this number drops to just 3: 1836 Meath, 1838 Tyrone, and 1839 Armagh. Rcds aren't very good at this time. The chance that his B was rcd'd is 40-50%. One of the 3 MAY B4 your ancestor. Will explore a bit to find his parents. For Ann Toner M B4 1840, somewhere in Ireland, I found 5 M rcds: 1834 Tyrone, 1835 Armagh, 1837 Tyrone, 1837 Louth, and 1839 Armagh. For "N" McCann, I found 8 rcds: 1834 Meath, 1834 Longford, 2-1834 Armagh, 1835 Meath, 1835 Armagh, 1838 Longford, and 1838 Kildare. For a marriage, it is likely in 1835 Armagh. For James B, the likely rcd is also for 1835 Armagh. A view of the detailed rcds will validate/invalidate them. Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg. Hope this helps. Good luck. Notify Administrator about this message?
