I am curious about the Whyte or White name associated with McCandlish. Have you come across any physical descriptions of the White's? My family has an inherited trait supposedly from a White family. THe white name supposedly came from this trait. It is a lack of pigmentation in an area on the head which makes the hair white in that spot. Basically, we used to call my brother "skunk" because he had brown hair with a patch of white on top.
Odd thing, but just wondering if you ever came across any similar story.
