Because your query is a few years old, you may have this information by now, but, just in case you don't, here is what I know.

The Margaret on the 1840 census in Kanawha Co. was the wife of Richard McCallister.

Richard and Margaret are buried in the Love/McCallister Cemetery in Putnam (formerly Kanawha) Co.

PUTNAM COUNTY W.Viginia LOVE/McCALLISTER CEMETERY: Cataloged by Charles Ray Harper and Rusty Bush May 24, 1983. <http://millennium.fortunecity.com/donald/547/data/putcem.txt>
McCALLISTER Richard d July 2, 1825 (Age 69 yrs)
McCALLISTER Margaret d Sept 25, 1845 (Age 84 yrs)

Richard was on the 1810 and 1820 censuses. He died in 1825. Margaret was on the 1830 and 1840 censuses in Kanawha Co.:

Margaret and Richard did have a daughter Mary, but she married John Harmon(estate documents).

They also had a son named James b. abt. 1782. He married Nancy McCown in 1812. His 1854 will named two children Malcolm and Olivia.

If you are sure that your Mary was the daughter of a James and Margaret McCallister, you might want to look at the James McCallister who was also on the 1840 census in Kanawha Co.

James and Joseph were not the sons of Richard and Margaret McCallister. I think they were nephews, perhaps the sons of Richard's brother James.

There is a fair amount of information about Joseph -- not all of it accurate -- but virtually nothing about James. Judging from census information, James was born 1774-1780. He was married and had children. I am exploring the possibility that he was the father of some of the McCallisters in the area who were clearly not from the family of Richard McCallister or Joseph McCallister.

Another possibility is that your Mary Ann McCallister was a much younger sibling for James and Joseph. I believe their father was James Jr. of Bath Co. He had at least two daughters born between 1801 and 1810. I think he died before 1820 and some of his younger children may have joined relatives in Kanawha Co.

When and where did your Mary Ann McCallister Cyrus marry?

Janice
