I found my ggg grandfather James Wemys McCallan living in Burr Oak township which was Doniphan Co. Kansas. he fought in the Mexican American War and married Anna Hack from Prussia. They had a lot of children and settled in Burr Oak Township. He is buried on the old homestead under what is now a cornfield. I traced his family back to Aberdeen scotland and found his parents to be William Macallan (name change there) and Catherine Duffus. I have also seen it as Duffy online, but in the Scotland Parrish records it is listed as Duffus. James Wemys McCallan came to the US abt 1848 and was born abt 1817 in Scotland. His children were
James born 23 Oct 1857
Scott (Scotch) born Feb 1863
Catherine (Kate)born abt 1865-67
Alexander born abt 1868
William J. (Bill) abt Aug 1862
Anna J (Annie) born abt 1859
and there were perhaps 3 infants one named Joseph. James Wemys McCallan died abt 1872 if you can help link with any of this family I would really appreciate any leads at all. We are seeking any info on Catherine who we have been unable to find. She went by Kate at times.
