Wrisden S. McCalla - Clermont Co., OH
Hi,
WRISDEN S. McCALLA was born on 19 August 1796 in Woodford County, Kentucky. I have an idea of who his father was, but I need more proof. Can you help?
If the following three things are found they could provide new leads:
(1) where was Wrisden in 1860
(2) where was Wrisden in 1870
(3) where did Wrisden die
This is what I have found so far.
On 2 July 1824 in Brown County, Ohio Wrisden married 1) MARTHA S. ELLIOT, who was born on 17 August 1803 in Virginia. Abner Elliot said she was of age. Martha was called Patsey.
In 1828 they were in Ohio when their son, Thomas J. McCalla, was born.
On 17 July 1829 their son, William H. McCalla, was born in Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky.
In 1830 Wrisden was still in Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky.
In 1832 their daughter, Mary A. McCalla, was born in Indiana.
In 1834 their daughter, Sarah E. McCalla, wasborn in Indiana.
In 1837 their son, Abner E. McCalla, was born in Rush County, Indiana.
In 1840 Wrisden was in Orange Township, Rush County, Indiana. James McCalla was living next door.
By 1850 Wrisden, a 53-year old farmer who had been born in Kentucky, was in Franklin Township, Clermont County, Ohio. Living with him were
Martha 46 years old and born in Virginia
Thomas 22 years old and born in Ohio
William H. 20 years old and born in Kentucky
Mary A. 18 years and born in Indiana
Sarah E. 16 years old and born in Indiana
Abner E. 13 years old and born in Indiana
Martha S. (Elliot) McCalla died on 4 October 1853 and was buried at Shinkle's Ridge Cemetery, Lewis Township, Brown County, Ohio.
On 31 July 1865 in Bracken County, Kentucky Wrisden S. McCalla married 2) RACHEL M. PALMER, who had been born ca 1805 in Bracken County. According to the marriage bond, Wrisden was a 68-year old farmer and resident of Clermont County, Ohio. He had been born in Woodford County, Kentucky and this was his second marriage. It went on to say that both of his parents had been born in Worcester County, Maryland. Wrisden's signature was there.
Rachel M. Palmer was 60 years old and had been born in Bracken County. It was her first marriage. The marriage was to take place at the house of Joseph T. Palmer, who was the surety. Joseph Palmer and Sarah Palmer were present.
So far I have not found Wrisden and Rachel on the 1860 census. They did not appear in Mason County, Kentucky nor in Franklin or Washington Townships, Clermont County.
On 11 October 1869 W. S. McCalla made an agreement with Milton F. Johnson. Milton was to provide W. S. McCalla and his wife with food and clothing for as long as they lived and Milton was to receive the rents and profites from a farm, a house, and a town lot owed by W. S. McCalla. The farm was near the town of Chilo in Clermont County, Ohio. The house and the town lot were in Brooksville, Bracken County, Kentucky. The agreement is in Bracken County deed book 8.
I have not yet found Wrisden on the 1870 census. That there are at least 32 different spelling of McCalla has not helped.
Wrisden died on 6 February 1877 and was buried at Wood Cemetery, Franklin Township,
Clermont County, Ohio. Clermont County does not have a death certificate on him, but he might not have died in the county.
If you have done any research on Wrisden or the McCallas of southern Ohio or Maryland please contact me. I will give you what help I can.
