I have been reading some old postings regarding Anna Colgate Mccaleb and would like to share some information that may or may not already be known. Anna Colgate Mccaleb, daughter of John and Indiana Booth Mccaleb was born Jan 21, 1856 at pleasant hill plantation, in Claiborne Co. Ms.. She was left an orphan at a very young age. After the death of her parents, her brother John Booth Mccaleb and his wife made a home for her and her brother and sisters at Pleasant Hill. Nov. 22, 1876 Colgate Mccaleb married Tom Parks Ellis at Pleasant Hill. Anna died of tuberculosis in 1890 and what information I have gives her resting place as Wintergreen cemetary in Port Gibson, Ms., But she is not listed in the Wintergreen canvass and I have not been able to locate her grave. Anna's husband Tom (Tom Parks Ellis) died of yellow feaver Oct. 9, 1897 and is buried in Girard, La. I have located his resting place and he has a large woodman of the world headstone.Tom and Anna lived in the Ellis home (Magnolia Grove) and Tom's mother Cynthia Ann Parks Ellis left the home and 400 acrs. to Anna at her death.Magnolia Grove is still standing. Questions?- Where is Anna buried? Does a picture of Anna and Tom or either exist? Facts- Hermatage, Magnolia Grove and Pleasant Hill plantation sites are all withen appx. eight miles of each other.Anyone looking into the Mccaleb familey in Claiborne co. Ms. might ask where was (Hull Home and Ten Acres?) also, where is Norwood cemetary located? In the recent published diary of Elizabeth Meade Ingraham, sister of union major general George Gordon Meade and a resident of Ashwood plantation, which was located a short distance across bayou pierre from Magnolia grove and a short distance East of Hermatage plantation sites. The diary list the marriage of Apolline Ingraham to Thomas LaRoche Ellis at Ashwood on April 26, 1859.Was this a relitive to Tom P. and Anna Colgate Mccaleb Ellis? Any help will be greately appreciated.
