Have you looked at Loudoun Co Order Books? Here is the first entry for any McCaffrey, as well as the first and last entry for Hugh McCaffrey.
Order Book C, 14 April 1766
[p. 74] Upon the proceedings returned against William McCAFFREY on suspicion of his being guilty of the felonious taking some quantity of wheat & sundry other things the property of Charles CHINN the said William appeared according to his recognizance and it appearing to the Court that the proceedings are illegal it is ordered that the same be dismissed.
Order Book C, 11 August 1766
[p. 146]John WHEELOR against Hugh McCAFFREY – upon an attachment – dismissed.
Order Book E, 16 August 1770
[p. 27]Joseph COOMBS against Hugh McCAFFREY – in debt – suit is dismissed and Defendant to pay costs of Plaintiff.
There are other entries for suits which came to a final disposition. For those suits it is possible that there are loose papers on file at the courthouse. No guarantee that any of the loose papers will give you additional pertinent information, but you never know.
If you need more information from the Loudoun Order Books, just let me know.
