McCabe Family research - So many common names
Posted by: Donald Karnish (ID *****0659) Date: October 04, 2011 at 19:40:00

I have a branch of the McCabe family from Ireland who settled in Rensselaer County, NY in the 1830's or early 1840's. The census records are not very much help because there are so many Hugh McCabes. My second G grandmother and her parents and siblings settled there but I have not been able to find any documentation on them. My 2nd G grandmother was Mary McCabe and her parents were Elizabeth and Hugh. There seems to be hundreds of people with those same names and it is very hard to determine if they are my McCabes.

Has anyone else been able to get past all the common McCabe names? I am still looking for that break through document but have come up empty.

Don Karnish
