Hi Susan - I know alot of time has past, but how is your research going? I just started researching this year and just this week I found McBurneys on the 1856 census of Iowa by the names of James McBurney, Bell McBurney and William McBurney. Also listed on the same census is a Isabell Rankin. I believe that James and Bell (Isabella) are my gggg grandparents. Wm. was one of their sons and Isabell their granddaughter from Esther and John Rankin. Most of my McBurneys settled in West Zorra Township, Oxford County, Ontario, however as my research progresses, I have found that afew have gone to Iowa. I am particularly interested in finding a son of the above James and Bell. His name is Hugh McBurney and was born around 1797 in Ireland. The above James and Bell arrived in New York in 1839 along with 11 other members of their family.
