I have this Charles McBurney in my family history:Individual Summary - 27 Feb 2002
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name:       Charles Hamilton MCBURNEY
Sex:       Male
Father:       George Washington MCBURNEY (14 Mar 1850 - 26 Feb 1928)
Mother:       Frances Zeleika STEELE (17 Jun 1859 - 3 May 1940)

Individual Facts
Birth       22 Jun 1881       Durham, Marion County, Iowa
Death       18 May 1955 (age 73)       Clinton, Custer County, Oklahoma

Marriages/Children
1. Laressa G. COX
Marriage       9 Dec 1908 (age 27)

Notes (Individual)
General: Charles was the eldest son of George and Frances Z. McBurney. In addition to being a medical doctor, his will suggested that he was a successful businessman dealing in real estate and lending. It is assumed that the notes carried by him according to his will were secured by real estate which he sold and financed himself.

He and his wife Laressa were members of the First Methodist Church of Clinton, Oklahoma which benefited substantially from his estate.

The mention of the following orginzations in Charles' will would indicate that he was very civic oriented: Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Clinton, Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma, American Bible Association, and the Clinton City Public Library.

His will mentions the following neices and nephews, some of which have been included in the proper family group: Charles G. McBurney, Audrey McBurney, Roberta Brock, Eugene L. Ames, Melba Brayshaw, Jessie Whitaker, Hazel Ely, F. V. Fry, Ernest L. Fry, George B. Fry, Lela Quirk, Fern Miller, Lois Johnson, Jess O. Haug, Frances Newsome, Ruth Paris, and Helen Hotelling.

John McBurney adds:"Dr. Charles was a general practioneer, or a family doctor as they were then called, and was named for his grandfather according to conversations with his brother W. J. McBurney. He attended the University of Kansas Medical School for two years before running out of money and to finish his education, he attended a summer Teacher's Institute at Arapaho. Here he passed the examination to be a teacher and taught school to earn enough money to resume his medical studies. Though he lost a year of college, he continued his studies at home and returned to Kansas as a Junior. Charles completed his last year of medical training in Kansas City. He then established his practice in the town of Clinton, some ninety miles West of Oklahoma City, and continued this practice until his death, which was caused by cancer."

Notes (Family #1)
