Obit for Major W. McBee
Major W. McBee former resident of Oakland, Ca.
Major passed at the age of 87 after a long bout with illness. He was the first African-American police officer in the Berkeley, Ca, Police Department, progressing to California's Bureau of Nartcotics Enforcement where he was Field supervisor. In 1964, he joined the Agency for International Development (U.S. Department of State) where he was posted to Iran, vietnam and Laos, and also worked in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Mildred Norwood McBee, 2 sons Les and Ron, granddaughter Gindla, sister-inlaw Bessie N.Johnson and his 105-year old aunt, Nell Borders.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 3, at 11am, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 2245 82nd Ave. Oakland, Ca. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations sent to either the American Heart Assoc. Research branch or to Xavier University in New Orleans, LA.
