I was aware of this power of attorney. I have corresponded with some people about the whole situation over the years, but not recently. Several scenarios have run through my mind:
1) Vardry didn't really die in Kentucky, but faked his death, ran away, and started a new life.
2) Someone was claiming to be Vardry in the census in order to collect a pension.

All of the other Vardry's that I know of descend somehow from the one that was married to Hannah McBee, so I doubt that there is another Vardry of that era lurking around anywhere.

It is a conundrum that I have not resolved at this point.
