Many thanks for your reply. The house you refer to would be no 1 The Square (Lorbay)and the man you mention was was Dick (Richard) McBay.His wife was Issie Taylor and their four children were Murray, Francis, Cecil and Jessie. Only Cecil is still alive and not in very good health following a stroke a couple of years ago. But Dick bought the cottage c1915 from his cousin (my Gt Grandfather) David McBay and his wife Ann Douglas. David's mother was Ann Davidson, daughter of David Davidson and Jean Young, so it could be we are related in some way through the Davidson's. As a lad I was always told the Davidsons were cousins and I went to school in Kettering with a Douglas Davidson from Johnshaven who joined the Merchant Navy and I believe became a skipper on tankers. His father was an engineer in the Navy but I would be guessing to name him, although Bill and Ann come to mind.
If you have any other information about the McBay's that I can add to my family tree narrative I would be delighted. If it is not too much trouble maybe you could also scan the picture that you have of the cottage.
