I have been perusing the 1841 census for John McArthur born 1828 and have seen some familiar names to those our John McArthur have named his chidren. John McArthurs faather Duncan McArthur was deceased at John and Isabella McArthur nee Stevensons marraige in 1856. His mother was Margaret McArthur nee Smith. There is an entry for Margaret McArthur 40 along with a Margaret Smith 70, isabella Smith 24 and Thomson Smith at Greenock West, Renfrew, so was wondering if this was Johns mother Margaret McArthur. There are several other families with Duncan or Margaret as parents and also other John McArthurs aged 13 in the 1841 census in the Greenock area. John and Isabella were both residing at Cathcart in 1856. I understand this was in the Renfrew area at that time.
Are there any Greenock, Renfrew, McArthur or Smith families out there please.
