Hi Scott, you are my cousin not very far removed!
1 William McAndrew
2 Joseph McAndrew
3 John Wesley McAndrew
4 James Davis McAndrew
5 Alice Mcandrew
5 Emmon McAndrew (My grandfather)
6 James Dewayne McAndrew "Dewayne" (My father)
7 Tamra Leigh McAndrew-Aguilar
My grandfather Emmon McAndrew was the youngest child of James Davis McAndrew and the baby brother to Alice McAndrew.
James Davis McAndrew died when my grandfather was 6 mos old. My grandfather, Emmon, was raised by his oldest brother.
Do you know the family song that was brought over from Scotland? If not, I will be happy to supply you with the words.
As far as when William came over all I have is family legend, and how accurate the story, who can say.
The story goes that William had a brother who was already here in the Colonies.William's brother(?) was a Revoluntionist and he encouraged William to smuggle supplies for the cause.William was supposed to have owned several ships, personally I doubt this, William would have had to be enourmously wealthy to own even one ship let alone several. Any way William was caught and he had to leave Scotland in a hurry. All of his holdings were confiscated. What happened to him after that the legend doesn't say.
My aunt Norma McAndrew-Shuman has gone over to Scotland to look around and has visited McAndrew castle.
Have you ever tried McAndrew desert beer? My brother Scott McAndrew likes it a great deal.
Aunt Agnes McAndrew has a box of old pictures and letters of the McAndrew family, including a letter James Davis wrote not long before he died.I am going to ask her for the box and I hope to create a McAndrew family web site and make available everything in that box.
If you are able to trace back further than William please let me know, and I will do the same for you.
Hope to hear from you,
Tamra
