Billy L. McAmis, 71, of Doty Chapel Road in Afton, Greene
Co TN, died Saturday morning at Johnson City Medical
Center, Johnson City, Washington Co TN.
Mr. McAmis was born August 30, 1933, in Greene Co, and was
the son of the late Eva and Fred McAmis.
He was a 1950 graduate of Baileyton High School.
His family noted that he lived in the Doty Chapel
community on the McAmis Brothers Farm, most of his life
except while he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954-
1957.
"While in the Army he was stationed in Hawaii and got to
play baseball for the Army and had a chance to try out for
the Major Leagues but chose to come home to the family
farm which he loved.
"He retired as a dedicated salesman for Purina and still
put many hours in on his farm," his family noted.
"Those close to him knew him as a kind, sincere and
devoted family man."
Mr. McAmis was an active member of Doty's Chapel Church.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew Johnson Post #1990.
Mr. McAmis was preceded in death by his father, Fred McAmis.
Mr. McAmis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Billie Jo
McAmis; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Leslie
McAmis, of Alcoa, TN; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and
Eric Kiker, of Greeneville, TN; two grandsons, Corey
McAmis and Dustin Kiker; his mother, Eva McAmis; a
brother, Johnny McAmis; special cousins and neighbors,
Robert and Dorthy McAmis; four brothers-in-law and a
sister-in-law, Paul and Alma Jackson, Norman Jackson,
Alfred Jackson, and Mike Jackson; and two sisters-in-law
and a brother-in-law, Ruby Smith, and Dorothy and J. D.
Whitehead.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., and
6 p.m. - 8 p.m., today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 p.m., in
the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Wade McAmis will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday
morning, in Doty's Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will
include Dale Rodgers, Bobby Conner, Carrol Smith, Scott
McAmis, Bobby Reynolds, John Doty, Alfred Jackson, Norman
Jackson, and Mike Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be
the members of Doty's Chapel Church and members of the
Loyal Order of the Moose.
Memorial contributions may be made to Doty's Chapel Church
or to Doty's Chapel Cemetery, c/o Eileen Reynolds, 2915
