Max and Danny, I've recently discovered new information about John and Elizabeth McAlpin. John McAlpin lived in Perry County MS before he moved his family to Smith County MS c1839. More that likely John met and married Elizabeth while he lived there. John first shows up in the Perry County tax rolls in 1823. He would had to have been 21 or older at the time in order to pay taxes. According to Elizabeth's tombstone at Harmony, she was born in Feb. of 1812 --that would have made her 11 years old in 1823, so I think they were not married until shortly (a year or two) before the birth of their first child, Abel, who was born in 1837. John is listed in the 1830 census of Perry County as head of the household living with one female, but I think that this was his sister or another woman and not his wife Elizabeth. I have additional information that I've gathered. Please contact me if your interested. Notify Administrator about this message?
