Laura, I enjoyed reading your post on this portion of the McAlister family. This is my line, also. I believe you may have your 3rd GGrandmother mixed up a bit. Susan, wife of William Smith, was a McAlister and you have her lineage correct. However, I believe it was William Smith's 2nd wife who was the mother of your GGreat Grandfather George. Her name was Annie Stroup. Susan died between 1852 and 1854. William Smith McAlister married Annie Stroup 12SEP1855. George Washington McAlister was born 09FEB1870, the seventh child to their union. Susan's grandparents were James McAlister and Tabitha Regan. William Smith McAlister's parents remain a great mystery which folks have been researching for years with no conclusive results.
