Click on the provided link to read one of the McGuire family wills from Mocksville, NC. There are names which may helpful to those who are helping re the researching Dr. Samuel McAfee and brother James McAfee.
If you will scroll downwards past the will to the additonal note which has been added, you will find that the great granddaughter of Dr. James McGuire (her name was Jane Eccles McGuire) indicates that Dr. James McGuire was held to be the son of Dr. Samuel McAfee of Mocksville, NC.
The oral McGuire family history is that there was NOT a marriage between Dr. Samuel McAfee and Sally McGuire...hence, Samuel McAfee's son was not named James McAfee, but rather, James McGuire. Through time, the McAfees' and McGuires' continued to be best of friends with McAfees' remembering McGuires' in last wills. So much of this puzzles me and we will never know the actual resasons for this McAfee-McGuire stance.
I have read and made copies of the letter which one of the McGuire kinships wrote to Ireland re her search for her generational grandfather Samuel McAfee's European home. The response from that foreign government only offered suggestions re searching for certain types of records. Although I found the evidence of one of the brothers entering U.S. from Great Britian, I have not researched this further to date.
I have not looked at any DNA posted results for the McGuire family to see if they might list a McAfee line and which current McAfee line it might match. Perhaps one of the current McAfee researchers could take this task on and see if a connection has been posted on either McGuire or McAfee sites for DNA re James and Dr. Samuel McAfee.
Day by day, progress is being made re this Mocksville, NC McAfee puzzlement ......it has lain unaddressed for too long a period! Please do help research re this matter as you are able to do! Just who is this Dr. Samuel and brother James McAfee....who seemingly were never married.
A thought has been tugging at my memory that I may have seen an early Samuel McAfee listed in, perhaps, Rutherford County, NC...I seem to recall that there was a Samuel McAfee listed at ONE time on a NC Census.
We will just keep "digging"....there will be more uncovered in the days to come! Who knows if this turns out to be a link back to the old country...we will see!
