Same John M. McAfee in GA Counties: Cherokee, Hall, Lumpkin, Forsyth, Union

There was a John M. McAfee who was the very same individual who served in public office in multiple GA counties, and there are other deed records for him in various other counties, including: Cherokee, Hall, Lumpkin, Forsyth, and Union. Within the Cherokee County, GA, land records there are a number early deeds for John M. McAfee and his brothers (there were seven brothers); and, a few deeds of cousinships from the line of NC William McAfee, the NC hunter.

The following info is taken from the military bio of John M. McAfee:

Justice, Hall County, GA Inferior Court, 1833-37
House of Representatives, Hall County, 1833-1836
Lumpkin County, GA Delegate to 1839 Convention
Lumpkin County, GA Senator, 1840-43
Cashier of Dahlonega Branch Bank of Darien, GA
Commissioned Brigadier General, 2nd Brigade of 7th Division (Surgeon)

Source: GA Militia Commanding Generals and Officers (Biography of Brig. General John Miller McAfee, M.D., surgeon)

Note: This is the same John M. McAfee who was in the huge law suit re the Vann Ferry on the Chattahoochee. The father of John Miller McAfee built the McAfee Bridge spanning the Chattahoochee River...which was some distance away from the location of the Vann ferry.

Sometimes authors get the this particular John M. McAfee, M.D. confused with John M. McAfee, son of Alexander Cole McAfee. Acually, there is MUCH confusion re this matter. I have noted that GA author Don Shadburn even seems to have confused these two John McAfees in his book: Blood Kin.

Indeed, it was John M. McAfee, M.D. who was in the huge and costly legal law suit re ownership of the property of the Vann Ferry. John M. McAfee, M.D. had properties in GA multiple counties and the various county lines so changed that this has been a significant task to locate all records of his properties. I am still working on this.

Too, in a large number of records, John M. McAfee, M.D. did not always use his title, which adds to the initial confusion for a researcher!
