History of McAfee Insurance Agency

30 Years Ago in 1979

__________________________________________________________

This year will mark the 30th Anniversary of McAfee
Insurance Agency named as Old American Insurance Company's
Agency of the Year.

Jerry Ray McAfee founded the McAfee Insurance Agency in 1965 representing
Old American Insurance Company of Kansas City, Missouri until 1983. The McAfee
Insurance Agency did business in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa.

In 1979, a major business and insurance magazine, Mid-America Selling Magazine, ran an article on
Jerry Ray McAfee and the McAfee Insurance Agency of 213 Broadway, Hannibal, Mo.
recognizing Old American Insurance Company's designation for the McAfee Insurance
Agency as their Insurance Agency of the Year for the past year. The McAfee Insurance
Agency was always near the top in life insurance sales for Old American in its 18 year
history. And for several years it was the No. 1 Health Insurance Agency for Old American. Jerry's son, Jerry A. "Jay" McAfee, District Sales Manager, was the No. 1 Health Insurance Agent for Old American for several years and a high producer of life insurance sales.

Jerry Ray McAfee and the McAfee Insurance Agency always prided itself in its customer service maintaining an office at 213 Broadway ran by Jerry's wife, Mary Evelyn (Glascock) McAfee (office manager), and their daughters, Mary "Kim" (McAfee) Cull and Charlotte (McAfee) McDowell. Jerry Ray McAfee also hired his brother, Eldon L. McAfee Sr., in the mid 1970's to work for the agency after Eldon needed a higher income than he was receiving from his previous employer. In addition, Jerry hired and trained his nephew, John "Andy" McAfee who lived at the corner of Rock St. & Paris Ave., Hannibal. Andy was a former employee of Crane & Fleming Surveying of Hannibal.

In November of 1982, Jerry sold his agency to Old American Insurance Company <after suffering a heart attack> and they appointed John "Andy" McAfee as their new general agency manager. Andy was given a rich clientele of policyholders from his uncle's agency as a foundation for his agency and a prominent name and respect in the insurance industry in that of Jerry Ray McAfee, the McAfee Insurance Agency's founder. Jerry Ray McAfee died on June 1, 2002. His wife, Mary (Glascock) McAfee died on March 17, 2000.
