Dear Readers: While on a recent trip to the North Carolina Archives, I had a copy made of a handwritten document which was a charge by James McAfee for his jury service, March 1788. It is as follows for those of you who may have an interest: March Term 1788 Supr. Court of Law and Equity State of No. Carolina Morgan District James McAfee charges as jurior (note the spelling) this term 100 miles riding and 11 days @ 8/p/Day 15.14.8 certificate pd. (word unreadable) to 11th day of March 1788. Signature difficult to read; but name appears to be have two initials. The first initial cannot be determined with clarity. The last initial looks like an "E" and the last name appears to be "Wilson". NOTE: If any researcher is of the spirit and has the time, could you consider accessing a map of the Morgan District, NC 1788? Once you are studying the map, could you use a mathematical compass and draw a circle 100 miles from wherever the court convened in Morgan District (where did it convene?) and find more exactly where the McAfees' of the 1788 period were living...even though there is general information which is common knowlege to many of us. (Larry McAfee, you have a strong sense of map skills...perhaps you would consider this research effort!) Carolyn McAfee clm1601@aol.com Notify Administrator about this message?
