Dear Carolyn, Somewhere I have a very poor copy of Abner McAfee's will from the NC Archives. I haven't tried to transcribe it because of the poor quality. Since I can't find it at the moment I will respond with the material I have. As you probably know, Abner's will was contested and wasn't settled for several years. What I have before me is a copy of Minutes to Cleveland Co. Spring Superior Court of Law AD 1847. John Dameron (Abner's son-in-law) and others vs Lawson McAfee and others. I think all of his children are mentioned (I haven't counted) but to quote "I also have given the half of two tracts of land to O. C. McAfee on Washtaw (sic) river the other on the Shuder (?) waters of said river. My other source for Oliver Cromwell McAfee is the Hart collection in the McKelvy Center in York, SC. My gr,gr,gr grandmother was Abner's daughter, Nancy Starnes, wife of Capt. Jacob Starnes of York. Several cousins and I have been researching the Starnes and became sidetracted when we discovered our relation to the McAfees. What a fascinating family. I have a list of 18 children and 4 wives for Abner. All of my material is not official, some has been copied from genealogy bulletins. Another note on Oliver, 23 February 1852: List of A. McAfee's letagees: Oliver C. McAfee, residence unknown (I believe he moved to Georgia). Fall 1850: George Wellington McAfee, a minor, died 17 March 1848 leaving (among others) half brother, Oliver McAfee. In the last few weeks I have collected so much McAfee material I don't have it all sorted. My SC cousin hired a researcher to search the NC Archives. Soon I'll be getting 450 pages of that. There are 4 file folders in the NC Archives on Abner McAfee. We're still trying to figure which of his wives is the mother of our gr, gr, gr grandmother Nancy McAfee Starnes. Please keep in touch. You may e-mail me if you like. Sometimes I have trouble bringing up the Cleveland County web site. Barbara Bwraybrake@aol.com
