GREER- Funeral services for Charlie E. McAbee, 78, of Greer Route 5,
who died Wednesday at 12:40 a.m. at his home after 18 months of declining health
and a serious illness of six weeks, will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Victor
Baptist Church.
The Revs. R. P. Lamb, John Davis and Homer Durham will officiate. Burial
will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. McAbee was born and reared at Piedmont and was a son of the late John
and Sarah Bowan McAbee. He had lived here for the past 20 years and was a member
of Victor Baptist Church. His wife, Laura Campbell McAbee, died two years ago.
Surviving are: three daughters, Misses Ida and Ruby McAbee, both of the
home, and Mrs. W. F. Starnes of Rock Hill, three sons, Welton of Paris, A. B. of
Greer and Grady McAbee of Lexington, N.C.: two brothers, Alvin of Atlanta and Y.
A. McAbee of Rock Hill: six sisters, Mrs. Dora Haralson of Spartanburg, Mrs.
Cora Sprouse of Gray Court, Mrs. Nora Turner of Austell, Ga., Mrs. Martha Bailey
of Atlanta, Mrs. Etta Denson of Rome, Ga., and Mrs. Minnie Carr of Alderson, W.
Va.; 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Alex Bolter, Grover Neighbors, Bill Snyder, Ennis
Sloan, Ralph Bispoh and Paul Campbell.
Deacons of Vistor Baptist Church will form the honorary escort. The body is
at the Wood Mortuary and will be taken to the home Thursday at 10 a.m.
General: Slender build, of medium heighth, grey eyes with black hair, worked for
Ware Shorls Manufacturing as a mill operator in 1918 in Greenwood Co., South
Carolina. Next of kin was Laura Alice McAbee. He could read and write
