I live near Newcastle, England but my 'Mazzie' ancestors lived in Bristol Cardiff. There were 3 brothers who came to Britain: Giovanni (John) (d.1872); Pellegrino; and Ferdinando (Frederick) Mazzei (d.1904). I believe that you are descended from Giovanni. I am descended from Ferdinando.
I have a copy of the 1871 Bath census, where Giovanni (calling himself John) Mazzei, his wife Mary Ann (nee Moffatt)(d.1906), Son William John (1856-1888), and son George Edward (1865-1924) were living. John states his place of birth as 'Leghorn, Italy,' which is in Tuscany.
From indexes that I have searched, I have found Giovanni's childrens names, and there childrens, and grand-childrens names (from Bristol).
Could you tell me which two of your Great-uncles were killed in the war? I also had two Great-uncles killed in the war (Louis and Alfred Mazzei). I have found two Bristol Mazzie births that may have been your uncles - William John and Frederick Thomas Mazzie.
