Richard Mays,Maysville,Ga.
Maysville,Ga. located near Banks and Jackson Co.,Ga. Begin operating in 1847,with no official name but was known as The Brick Store. The railroad was graded in 1873 and was laid in 1876.Richard Mays, geologist, for the MidWestern Railroad was so well liked by the townspeople that they prompted him to name the town, so it became Maysville.Richard was from Oklahoma, originally, and returned there to become an owner of oil wells.
Info from Maysville Fall Festival Newspaper.
Other info sent to me was taken from History of Peach Co.,Ga.Sarah Elizabeth Mays Harwell b.1831,was the daughter of Elisha Mays and Josephine Gann who were early settlers of Maysville,Ga. a town named for the family.
My records show that Sarah b. 1831 Ga.was the oldest sister of Elisha b. 1853 Ga. and not his daughter.Does anyone know anything more about this?Where does Richard fit into the picture? I do not have records of Elisha living in Maysville, but that doesn't mean that he didn't.Other family members lived in and around Maysville and Banks Co.,Ga.
Thanks,
