Name of a third-century bishop of Carthage who was a leading figure in the history of the Western Church. [3]
From the Roman family name Cyprianus which meant "from Cyprus" in Latin. Saint Cyprian was a 3rd-century bishop of Carthage and a martyr under the emperor Valerian.
Cyprian Mayo was the fourth son of Joseph Mayo and and Mary Shepard. joseph was a Quaker. Joseph's father and mother were Edward jr. (1672_ and Mary Clare.
Edward Mayo Sr. (1648) married Sarah Maggs? Meggs?
I would guess that the name is due to their afilliation with the church. as there are other names in that line that suggest that as well.
