Main, Maine, Mayne, Mains, Maines surname DNA study

Are you wondering if your line of Mayne ancestors has descendants in the USA? Many Main and Maine named folks
in the US are sure their ancestors came from the British
Isles and wonder about the spelling. Some believe that a
male Y DNA study may offer clues and/or breakdown brick
walls. A DNA study for the MAIN and variant surnames has
been started and participants are being sought.

The url for the study site is
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Main/

The methodolgy involves only a cotton swab cheek
scraping and waiting weeks for the results of any
match. A match within 1000 years does not tell much
except that there is a match, but a match within 300
or fewer years could be informative. More information
is available at the projects website.
