Newspaper: Sioux City 'Journal.' Publication Date: February 2, 2000 Obituary: HAZEL M. MAYNARD Akron, Plymouth County, Iowa. Hazel Maureen Maynard, 84, of Akron died Sunday, January 30, 2000, at the Akron Care Center. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. Burial of the cremains will be in Riverside Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Mrs. Maynard was born August 27, 1915, in Union County in South Dakota, the daughter of Ludvig and Carrie (Hovland) Hoven. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was employed as a teacher and librarian in the Akron-Westfield school system, retiring in 1988. She married Porter Maynard on December 19, 1937, in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple lived in Union County until 1984, when they moved to Akron. He died in 1988. She entered Akron Care Center in 1998. She was a member of the Methodist Church and P.E.O. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Robert Hatten of Oceanside, California; two sons and their wives, David and Cathy of Hastings, Minnesota, and Arnold and Carmen of Huntsville, Alabama; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
