richard,
i'm sorry to say that i am pretty new to researching and genealogy so at first i did not list my sources.at this time, i can not tell you exactly where i obtained the bd's for lucinda and catherine.however family search.org shows lucinda maymard attaway married john w.smith on 4-28-1850 in edgefield. sc.
i also took another look at the letter and family tree that actually got me started on my quest.the letter my mother actually received in 1986 from mrs. wilson stated that the handwritten tree was from a descendant of john, brother of james and elizabeth.it stated that she lived in a suburb of augusta, ga. and was a descendant of william u. and emily crutchfield maynard's daughter, mary lizzie, who married gus simmonsit goes through 7 generations.the most complete list are the lines:1) nicholas. 2) james 3) benjamin hatcher and continues through benjamin's down line up until the early 1970's
on another sheet she speaks of richard ellis, daniel vines and nancy james just stating they lived in what is now saluda.
she also stated that her grandmother told her that james madison and susan ussary maynard had a child named "lem" who was not listed on the 1850 census.
i hope this information helps.i can give you more specifics if you need them.
thanks for your help,
jan
