Jacob MANER of NC/TN Chronologies

Jacob MANER of NC/TN (ca 1750-1830)
John Maynard 10/26/01
You have made a real find in tracking this Jacob Maynard.My first guess was that the Jacob Maynard with two tithables in 1771 Surry County NC was probably the father of James, William, Christopher, and possibly other sons.Marilyn Hughel had independently arrived at the same conclusion.The big drawback was that none of the three above named men had a known son, Jacob, and few if any grandsons by that name.Jacob, the Revolutionary War veteran born in 1760, could have been a younger brother of the James, William, and Christopher or he could be the Jacob named in the 1816 will of old William of Wake County.
Just because three Maynards were taxed in 1789 (and one in 1788) in Montgomery County, VA does not necessarily mean that they had moved the short distance from NC into VA.That boundary was poorly surveyed and in dispute.In all probability they were still on their farms in NC.
I suspect the Lee County, VA entries were for Manos and not Manor.The ending s and r can look identical in some handwriting.That was proen to be the case with the Floyd County, KY Jacob Manor; so I have deleted him from this list.
I have appended my Maynard references to the following chronology;
however, note that these were all my Maynard references.They are
not limited to just Jacob Maynard.
