Newspaper notification of the death of William Mayhew:
"We the subscribers being appointed by the Hon. William Gorham, Esq. Judge of probate, &c. for the county of Cumberland, to receive and examine the claims of creditors to the estate of WILLIAM MAYHEW, late of Buckfield, yeoman, deceased, represented insolvent, do hereby give notice, that we will attend that business at the house of Mr. Abijah Bucks, in Buckfield, on the first Thursday of June next, and the first Thursday in the two following months, from two to six o'clock in the afternoon of said days." William Mayhew's land was in probate and distributed to his wife and children 14 years after his death. On October 3rd 1809. If you would like a copy of this probate record - send me an email request. *Oxford County, Maine Register of Deeds*

Daniel Cole <1st husband of Mary Mayhew> submits a newspaper advertisment not long after the land was probated that reads as follows:

"To the Honorable Justices of the Court of Common Pleas for the county of Oxford, holden at Paris, in said county, on the second Tuesday of May, A.D. 1809.
The petition and representation of Daniel Cole, in said county, yeoman, Gaurdian of Nathaniel Mayhew and John Mayhew, minors, children of William Mayhew, late of Buckfield, yeoman deceased, Humbly sheweth the the said Nathaniel and John are interested as heirs of said deceased and own one sixth part each, of about sixty six acres of land and a small part of a Dwelling house situated in said Buckfield, being the residue of the homestead farm of said deceased, inclusive of the Widow's Dower; that the said minors interest in said estateis at present unproductive, and that it would be greatly for their benefit , and necessary to have their said proportion sold, to pay taxes and appropriated the support and legal expences of said minors, - Wherefore he prays your Honors to grant him Licence to sell the interest of said minor children in the aforesaid real estate, and as in duty bound will ever pray . ---- Daniel Cole May 10, 1809."
