Dear Verla,
I do so appreciate sending all that gloriously interesting Mayfield history.I , of course, am selfishly wondering "where do my Mayfields fit in here..if at all."I am especially interested in Southerlin Mayfield.Anyway, I am going to give to you here the outline of how my Mayfield tree/connection goes, and perhaps, it will lend some insight as to how my line/s fit in here.It reads as follows:
Robert Mayfieldb. abt. 1620Englandd. 1692Henric Co. VA.Unknown wife
a child:Robert Mayfieldb.abt. 1656VA.marSARAH MAYFIELD
their child:
Abraham Mayfieldb1688Probably Essex Co.VA.d.1788Grainville, N.C.
marELIZABETH BELLE
their child:
Robert Jr. Mayfieldbabt. 1735d. 18116Chester Co. SC.marSARAH xxxx
their child:
Edmond Robin Mayfielddb 1759dmar 3, 1817marMARY SAUNDERS
their child:
William "Robert" Sr. Mayfieldb1774-1782VA.marELIZABETH (MAYFIELD)
THEIR SON:
Elisha L. Mayfieldbbet1804 -1806different census has him in NC,SC, Ky.
he marriedREBECCA OVERTURF
The last family , Elisha L. Mayfield and Rebecca Overturf is where my Simons family shows up.two of their children married Simons.Mary Ann Mayfieldmarried Robert Simons b abt. 1828.And her sister, Elviny "Levina" Mayfield, b 1836 married Robert Simons's above brother , Joseph Martin Simons.
These two Simons brothers and their spouses both had large families, and many of these children married Mayfields, Hillis, Davis, Jones, etc. These Simons brothers had 5 siblings besides themselves , born to ARCHIBALD MAXWELL SIMONS AND CHIRISTINA MOORE.CHRISTINA MOORE'S MOTHER, by the way, was REBECCA STEPP .
Now, see how these families overlap (for lack of a better word):The above Christina Moore , one of her sister's was Amy Jane Moore.Well, she married a William Mayfield b abt 1825.
I am just putting these bits and pieces out there to see if it rings any kind of bell with you.All the above families had other brother and sisters.I don't have all of them listed here.Does this Southerlin fit in anywhere here?
Do you have any other Simons? Also, going back to Elisha (above 1804-1806) he had a sister Elizabeth Mayfield that married a Matthew Dyer.........one of their dau was Francis Dyer, who marries a Russell, and one of their dau
is Francis Eva Russell, and she marries George Simons........who is another brother of above Simons brothers.
Well, now I don't know what you can do with the above, I am just trying to give a general outline as to where my family lines come in.Do any of the above fit in with your Mayfields?
Thanks again for all the Mayfield information. It is just so interesting to read about!RoseMary
