Archibald Scott Mayes was born April 1, 1800 in Staunton VA and came to KY around 1803. He married Harriot Paulina McElroy and lived just a few miles out of Springfield KY on the road going to Perryville. He traveled to Greene Co., AL each year to sell stock to plantation owners there and may have had family there as well. I have a letter from Texas, written to him in July 1854, signed "Your brother, R.B. Mayes." I am interested in finding more information concerning his parents and siblings.
