Thank you Elaine. I checked the Family Tree on World Connect. He is listed there. I was just trying to be sure that he was the same ANDREW G. MAYES The birthdate coincides, and his census records show Alabama as his birthplace and his occupation as blacksmith. I was curious how he came to be in Burleson Co. Texas, and if he came with family. The WILLIAM JAMES MAYES in Franklin Co. GA. that married ELIZABETH THOMAS was a descendant of the ANDREW MAYES in PA. as far as I can tell. The following is taken from HEBRON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH GOD'S PILGRIM PEOPLE: "The progenitor of the MAYES family of Hebron, whose name has not been documented, was a Pennsylvanian who died while a member of the Fairforest Presbyterian Church in Union County, South Carolina, and became early leaders at Hebron. The present day Fairforest Cemetery has many grave markers bearing the MAYES/MAYS name." "2a. THOMAS MAYES was among the very first settlers in the Hebron nieighborhood. He was born about 1765 and died about 1825. He was an accomplished blacksmith. He served in the Revolutionary War and was a CHARTER ELDER AT HEBRON, having moved his membership from Fairforest." "2a. JOHN MAYES came from the Fairforest Presbyterian Church where he had been chorister. He was an early Hebron elder and was Hebron's chorister until his death. He died circa 1827 and his wife was Margaret. He had 11 children." When ANDREW G. MAYES died, he had 3 children and one on the way. I have tried to locate descendants of ANDREW G. MAYES and ADELINE THOMAS but have had no luck. Thank you again, and I hope you don't mind all the extra information. It may help someone else. I do have a list of the 11 children of JOHN MAYES above and I found EDWARD MAYES' will in a book entitled ALABAMA RECORDS VOL. 17 - GREENE COUNTY compiled by Pauline Gandrund.
