Dear Blanche,
I will certainly be writing to you directly. However, one last speculation which may be of general interest to Mayes researchers.I try to avoid posting possibilities or "could bes" to message lest I later find them online as "fact" so I am hoping everyone realizes that this is ONLY speculation
I have been wondering about the Henry Mayes who married a third Greenlee daughter, Mary.According to the Greenlee book Henry and Mary moved to the west about 1845 or 50.Mary died and Henry and some of the children disappeared on the journey back to Tennessee??Like I said the Greenlee book is the sort of book that is based on informanats. However, unlike a certain book on the Iveys, Ivys, Ivies the information seems to be pretty accurate. It was published in 1904 and many of the grandchildren of the original Daniel, Greenlee, Mayes families were still living.
Who is this Henry??The parents of many of the Greenlee spouses are given, but no antecedents are listed for Henry.
Another missing Henry is James Mayes and Jenny Howell's Henry, (Mrs. Elika Taylor's brother) last known residence, Roane County.I did briefly wonder whether Mary Greenlee's spouse was the SAME Henry, but I DON'T think so.I think this second Henry would have been too young to have been the Henry who married Mary Greenlee.Of further interest is the fact that Edward Mayes was the bondsman for this marriage.(I believe this would be Easter and Liggen's Edward.Dudlsy and Elizabeth Daniel Mayes's, Edward "Ned" would have been about 12 years old at the time.Unlike the Henrys :) :)these are the only Edwards that I know of.)I am NOT suggesting that one could assume that Mary Greenlee's Henry was another child of Liggen and Easter. What we need here is some probate records!!However, if documents concerning the settlement of Liggen's estate COULD be found some of this information could be helpful in identifying the "Henrys".
