My family changed the spelling to MYERS after they arrived in America. The german spelling of our name in church records was MAYER. My ancestors could also write and I find some records where they sign their name as MAYER. I believe they changed the name to MYERS because that spelling was closer to the English pronunciation. It would have been more accurate to change it to MEYER.
