Trying to piece this puzzle together..... John May, who was born May 1839-1842, TN or GA, married twice. First marriage was to Jane Arnold, 7 April 1859 Whitfield Co GA; second to Mary Whisenant 18 Feb 1891, Whitfield Co GA. He died after 1910 where he is shown as a widow in Whitfield Co census with his two children from his second marriage: Sarah and Walter H. I know that he had at least three children from his first marriage: George W., born ca 1860 GA or TN; Rebecca, born July 1864 GA or TN and John Samuel, born 1865, GA. I believe George died young - I last see him in the 1870 census. Rebecca married James Helton and John Samuel married Olive ----. They are shown in the 1860 census in Bradley Co TN, and in 1870-1900 census in Whitfield Co GA. I know that John had Sarah May (no relationship shown) living with them in 1870, who was born abt 1853. I also know he had a sister named Rebecca who was born May 1845 and single in 1900 - as she was living with her nephew John Samuel (son of John) in Whitfield Co GA then, and called Aunt. If I go back one more decade in the census - I can see in 1860 Bradley Co TN census the following 1640-1640: John May, 21, farmer, no birth place listed Jane, 23, no birthplace listed Thos M., 9, TN Sarah A., 6, TN 1641-1641; David May, 45, farmer, NC Charity, 35, NB Sarah, 16, TN Rebecca, 14, TN Wm, 12, TN Reuben, 10, TN Polly, 8, TN Nancy, 6, TN 1642-1642: Samuel May, 24, farmer, TN Mary A., 17, TN John, 6, TN Sarah J., 11, TN Charity C., 2/12, TN Berry May, 22, TN Mary, 20, TN Charity, 5, TN Rebuen L.J., 2, TN If I go back to the 1850 census in Murray Co GA: David May, 36, NC Charity, 34, GA Samuel, 14, TN Berry, 12, TN John, 10, TN Sarah, 8, GA Rebecca, 6, GA William, 3, GA Reuben, 0, GA If I go by the 1850 census, then I can see John (who is the correct age) and Rebecca who is about a year older than what I show in the 1900 census as children of David. I am not sure who Sarah is that was born abt 1853 - but perhaps she was a cousin of some sort. She is living with John and Jane in 1860 as well - so it looks like her age is correct, and who was Thomas M (born ca 1851) who was living with John and Jane in 1860. I just don't see any other way option except that John and Rebecca are the children of David and Charity since the ages are so correct.......Thomas and Sarah can't be children of Samuel or Berry (the two elder brothers of John)..... Where are all of these May ancestors buried? I am guessing in Whitfield Co GA? Thanks, Trish Elliott-Kashima, Lawrenceburg, TN Notify Administrator about this message?
