Hello Dickie,
I checked the Pike County, MS, Marriage License database at the Circuit Clerks online site, and it shows Lela Grubbs married J A May on December 16, 1896. You can contact them and ask for a copy of the marriage certificate- it should have her parents name listed - maybe!
I think you are right about Henry Thomas Grubbs being her father, but I have no concrete data to prove this hunch!
My Dad said that Dewitt May worked in the coal mines up north, and that he fell down an elevator shaft and died. John Austin May and Joseph H 'Joda" May (my Dad's grandfather) were brothers.
