Searching for ancestors of John May, born May 1842, TN (father appears to have been born in TN, mother in either TN or SC). John married at least twice: first to Jane Arnold, 7 April 1859, Whitfield Co GA; second to Mary E. Whisenant, 18 Feb 1891, Whitfield Co GA. John died some time after 1910 census (of Whitfield Co GA then). I have them in the 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 census in Whitfield Co GA.
John and Jane appear to have a sister of John living with them in 1870: Sarah May, aged 17, without occupation, GA. I do not see them in the 1860 census tho. I do see two John Mays in the 1850 census in Murray Co GA who are possibilities. One in the family of David and Charity May and the other in the family of James and Susannah May. Similar names to the children, and both had Johns born in TN.
Children born to first marriage: George W., Rebecca (who married James E. Helton, John S. Children from second marriage: Sarah C and Walter H.
I suspect John is buried in Whitfield Co, probably with Jane and Mary. Where? Is Sarah his sister? Both of those possible Johns have sisters named Sarah, but the "incorrect" age. So, who are John's parents?
