The story came from Clara (Adams) Stowers book on Elbert Co. 1770-1970.I generally use stories in my research because I feel it puts some life into the person your're researching. My mother is a McMullan from Elbert Co. GA and her grandfather was captured at the same time in Decatur, AL with Milton Barrett Adams (Tommie). It appears that they were imprisoned at the same camp but not known if they knew each other while there. They returned in a similar fashion on the train after being released.Tommie's return seemed to be more dramatic because of his medical situation.
I would appreciate a list of Tommie and Sara Ann's children, dates and marriages and stories if you know any.
Do you know much about Tommie's siblings and what they did?I understand that all male siblings participated in the Civil War.
Do you know much about Catherine (Mansfield) Adams (Caty)?I have been trying to locate the names of her parents and where she was born.I have the birth city as Baltimore, MD but question this because she married William Henry Adams in Fluvanna Co. VA.I'm currently having someone at a library in Lincoln, MA who is looking in a book on the Mansfield's for this information if available.
Do you have much information on Mary Polly (Nelms) Adams?I have her mother listed as Phoebe but no surname.
My great grandfather, James Jordan Adams, was the son of Hiram Gaines Adams and Mary Polly (Nelms) Adams. His granddaughter, my Aunt Eunice (Adams) Westbrook, had a photo of him carrying a small paper bag.I asked her what was the bag and she said he carried lemon drop candy in the bag for the children. She said that he loved children and making them happy made him happy. He was a brother of Tommie.
