milton maxton - 1850s pennsylvania
I'm trying to figure out the life of my 3rd great grandfather, Milton Maxton.
Milton was married to Mary Chrisman around 1853, near Somerset County, PA. They had two children, Morice, born 1854, and George O Maxton, born 1859.
There is a divorce record showing Milton filed for divorce from Mary, in 1860, in Chester County, PA. Milton filed the divorce, listing desertion (presumably, Mary left him).
I also find a civil war record for a Milton Maxton, mustering out of the military in 1861, Dauphin County. I believe this to be the same Milton.
Here's where I get lost or unsure.
I believe my Milton married Eliza Usner, around 1860-1861. This Milton and Eliza had 12 children (George, Emma, Annie, Isaac, William, Mary, Milton, Harry, Sally, Jesse, Lydia, Leon), from 1861 to 1878.
I believe the Milton Maxton that married Mary Chrisman and had two children in 1854 and 1859 was the same Milton Maxton that married Eliza Usner and had 12 children from 1861 to 1878.But I can find no references to confirm this, no mention of second wife, nothing to connect.
Milton and Eliza Maxton are buried at the Windsor Baptist Church Cemetery, Chester County, PA. Milton (1834-1908), Eliza (1842-1915).
Mary Chrisman Maxton Wren (1833-1882) is buried at the Messer Cemetery, Cherokee County, KS. Mary brought heryoungest Maxton son, George, to Kansas, with her 2nd husband, Joseph Wren, in 1876.
I'd really like to figure out Milton Maxton's family, whether he was married to both Mary Chrisman and then Eliza Usner, and then who Milton's father was.I've been stuck here for a few months.
