A biography/family history of Lewis L. Maxson is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 1114 * 1115. Parents: Joseph Edward Maxson, born 1851 in WI & migrated to Hardin Co., IA, where he bought land and in improved farm. Later he moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he was in the mercantile business. In Iowa, Joseph married Miss Mattie West, daughter of Walter West, a farmer. Maxson children: Warren I. (Glendive, MT), Lewis L. (Fairview, MT).
Lewis L. was brought up and educated in Minneapolis and worked in his father's grocery. In 1908, he settled in Fairview, MT, and for four years he was a clerk in the Yellowstone Mercantile Co. He established a business of his own, "The Lewis L. Maxson Mercantile Co.". He also set up a homestead just west of Fairview.
