list indentured THARP children/3 to Thomas Maxson
December 5, 2001
Hello MAXSON readers:
Thomas had 3 THARP children indentured to him.
[possibly 4, if he also had Hezehiah?] If any of you have
information on to whom Hezehiah was indentured please post.
I have decided to post this again. This time with a list of all seven of the Benjamin THARP/ or THORP and Elizabeth MAXSON children.Below is a complete list of all the children and to whom they were indentured. The story should have read "4 Indenture Daughters" orprehaps , "All the poor children indentured". I don't plan to redo it at this point.
Please note that I have revised the notes on the son Hezehiah D. THARP. Also I have tried to correct some typo or spelling mistakes of earlier post.
*
I have written and posted a number of articles that have extensive data on Elizabeth MAXSON, wife of Benjamin THORP / THARP. You will find there also extensive data on the MAXSON line. They are all posted in the
http://www.genforum.comhttp://www.genforum.com under THARP forum:

Who was Thomas Maxson ? Note by C.L.S.
* How many of the BENJAMIN H.THARP and Elizabeth MAXSON children were indentured to him?
Thomas Maxson had in total 3 children by his once carpenter Benjamin H. THARP and his wife, then widow Elizabeth MAXSON{1770-1811}. Remember the start of this story as:
" ELIZABETH MAXSON is married to carpenter Benjamin Thorp (Tharp), who worked for Thomas Maxson, fell on hard times."
* Was he related to Elizabeth MAXSON?
Yes, they shared the same Grandfather, Joseph MAXSON Jr.3 [1692-1747], and Bethia or Bethiah MAXSON[1693-1774], so Elizabeth MAXSON father Zebulon, born 15 Aug 1725, was the older brother of Simeon Maxson, born just 2 years later in 25 Aug 1727. Thomas had Uncle Zebulon. And Elizabeth had Uncle Simeon.
* What was his occupation?
Deacon in the West Fork River Seventh Day Baptist Church, And Prosperous Farmer. From page 681 (Davis-SALEM) Corliss Fitz- Randolph in his book: HISTORY OF SEVENTH DAY BAPTIST IN WEST VIRGINIA 1905, AMERICAN SABBATH TRACT SOCIETY, PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY list a letter dated 23 July 1808 in which Thomas Maxson , Clerk, asked for admission of said WEST FORK RIVER SEVENTH DAY BAPTIST CHURCH. Located at the mouth of Lambert’s Run, in then Monongalia County, now Harrison County, V. His request was refused. Thomas Maxson and all his family were members of this church.
And Prosperous Farmer.

Hi Vicki--I found a Benjamin Tharp in New Jersey involved with an Ebenezer Foster. This Loyalist lived as a farmer in Woodbridge, N.J. and was Judge of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas. The schedule of his property indicates prosperity, etc. The persons from whom Foster bought his property are recorded in one document. With this is the original indenture of March 25, 1773, of Benjamin Thorp, a poor child, of Woodbridge, to Ebenezer Foster, farmer, with the original signatures of Samuel Barron and David Alston, both Justices of the Peace. This all had to do with Foster's being a Loyalist and being kept a "prisoner". This was from a book called "The Loyalists of New Jersey in the Revolution". Of course, this is just the name of Benjamin Thorp in an area from which this group, ie, Davis and Maxson, all came from and doesn't prove anything.
Bethia's sister, Nancy, is my great great grandmother. She married Wilford Drummond.
