John Radford m. Elizabeth and/or Agnes Maxey?

Edythe Maxey Clarke's often cited 1987 book "Maxey's of Virginia" has John Radford (d. 1773 Cumberland Co., VA married only to Elizabeth Maxey.

Hester E. Garrett's "A Book of Garretts (in the LDS Library) has this John married 1st to Agnes Maxey, the mother of all of his children. He has John married 2nd to Elizabeth Maxey (Maxey) Barnes, the sister of Agnes and the daughter of Edward and Susannah Maxey.

If you have read one or both of these books, it would be helpful if you would share what evidence each author cites as the basis for their conclusions.
