As you know Johan is the German for John. Therefore I have 6 Johns before the middle of the 1800s. Johan Adam Maurer around 1747. Johan Michael Maurer 5 Jul 1749, John Maurer around 1759. John Johannes Maurer 12 Feb 1763. John Maurerr 29 Aug 1783, John Maurer 5 Oct 1811. That is all on my direct line. Michael was as far back as I can go with my direct line. He was born around 1735 in Berks county PA. John Johannes Maurer is his son. He changed his name to Mowery in Pickaway co, Ohio. He changed it because of the neighborhood.(Irish or Scottish). He was the great-Great Grandfather of my Grandfather. My grandfather was in a full Irish neighborhood in Lincoln IL and he was running for county clerk. He changed the spelling to be more in line with his neihborhood. That is how my spelling of Mowrey came about. I hope this helps. If you're on a link to Michael Maurer, I would love to get it. My Grandmother Mowrey's side goes back to the Plantagents family in England back in about the 800's. [email protected] D. Mowrey
