Michael, after I read your first message I became interested for two reasons. After reading the second one I now have a couple more reasons. I am not a MAURER and my REEB family did not come from Switzerland to "der Krummes Elsass" as according to the French "Alsace Bossue" but one of my REEBS who had been in that area many years did marry a daughter of a GUTH family who came from Switzerland down to the old Nassau-Countdom. I have been doing research in the records of the same region for many years now. I correspond with both French and Americans whose ancestors were from that westernmost portion of Bas-Rhin.
Also, I do have information on the BAER family, who have at different times been known by other spellings including BEER, BEAR, BAEHR (mostly I believe after that region became part of France for the BAEHR spelling. I am proud to say that years ago I wrote to Dr. Gerhard HEIN after learning from the Mayors office in Keskastel about Dr. HEIN. I received a total of three letters from Dr. HEIN. I told a German born professional researcher in Salt Lake City about Dr. HEIN'S which are now on CD but this was before they got on CDs and she told the FHL in Salt Lake City and asked them to order his records. Which they did.
As I collect genealogy using the method of gathering the data for as many descendants from common ancestry as possible, I have a large collection of very many surnames from the old Saarwerden Countdom. My own ancestor Johann Peter REEB came to Philadalphia from Pisdorf (now Bischtroff-sur-Sarre in 1752 aboard the HALIFAX. One brother followed in 1754, then two others by 1761 all first setteled in Pennsylvania. The two older eventualy moved to North Carolina by 1766, one brother we found his descendants in Northampton County, and one other brother had three sons in Philadelphia but we have not yet found their descendants if any.
I have heard from at least two of the American descendants of the BAER family who lived in Keskastel. Many of one of my other family..STROH in PA and other places in the U.S.A. and some of my REEB cousins in this country also trace back to the GUTH family of Swiss origin.
When I read your name of Christian MAURER I checked to see if I have it in my files. I do but probably not the one you want. This found in Census records and he was a Carl Christan Maurer son of a Charles MAURER living in San Jose, CA in the 1800s. I could not then match him with the MAURERS who I am interested in but some how I determined that his wife was a Catherine KAISER WHO I BELIEVE WAS Actually Catherine KAISER, a daughter of a Peter KAISER born in Hirschland in Bas-Rhin (aka Unter-Elsass, Reichsland Elsass-Lothringen). Catherine's mother was Christina BALTZ.
Now that I see your mention of Diedendorf I will attempt to see if I can match your MAURER family with the family I am very familiar with who settled in Ohio, Pittsburgh, PA and also later Indiana and Illinois. I know one young lady who lives in Indiana who has been corresponding with me about the MAURER for a year or longer.
