That OTHER Jacob Mauney of Lincoln County, N.C.
My 5th-great-grandfather was David Mauney, b. 1763 in Lincoln County, N.C., d. 1843 in Rutherford County, N.C. He married Mary Osborn Monroe.
Many, many family trees online list him as being a son of Hans Jacob Mauney Jr. and Catherine Ecker.
I merely accepted this without putting any time into doing research.
Then, I found that my 6th-great grandfather William Whiteside was a signer of the Tryon Resolves. That led me to discover that Jacob Mooney was another signer.
All of that led me to "Three Mauney Families" published in 1967 by Bonnie Mauney Summers. She could find no connection between my David and his brothers John, Daniel, Jonathan and James to Hans Jacob Mauney, although their father was named Jacob and some of them were born in Pennsylvania, while others were born in Lincoln County.
I do know that David Mauney and his wife Mary Monroe were associates of the Whiteside family and had intermarried with them, which puts them in some kind of vicinity of the more documented Mauneys.
Does anyone out there have any records or information to support who this other Jacob Mauney, father of David, was?
